HISPANIC STATE LEGISLATORS CONVENE SIXTH NATIONAL SUMMIT
The Immigration Policy Debate will be among the main agenda topics

Washington, DC/Las Vegas, NV – The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) will convene Hispanic State legislators, corporate executives, educators, government officials, policymakers and other state and local elected officials from across the country at its Sixth Annual National Summit scheduled for November 13-15, 2008 at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Among the main agenda topics is the Immigration Debate: NHCSL’s President, Delaware State Representative Joseph E. Miró, announced that Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan will be among the high-ranking officials participating in the immigration discussion along with other immigration policy experts. “Immigration issues are at the forefront of our agenda and are a policy priority for NHCSL, we welcome the opportunity to hear from Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan whose contributions will be crucial as we develop new policies in this area” stated Representative Miró.

NHCSL Summit agenda will also include a presentation of the election results and the impact of the Hispanic vote, as well as a review of NHCSL’s policy priorities in the areas of education, economic development, the current housing crises and other issues affecting the nation and our Latino community.

The Summit officially begins on November 13 with the John S. Martinez Golf Outing, created to help young high school students who aspire to have careers in politics. The fund was created to honor the legacy of the late, former president of NHCSL, Representative John S. Martinez of Connecticut. Registration and information are available at www.nhcsl.org.
