NHCSL Encourages
Members to Oppose Series of Enforcement Only
Bills That Will Harm Immigrants
Washington, DC – The National Hispanic
Caucus of State Legislators today announced its
opposition to H.R. 6095 which applies
“enforcement only” when dealing with immigration
law.
The following statement was issued by
Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (NY), President of NHCSL:
“H.R. 6095 is a disastrous bill that will do
nothing but hamper current and future police and
community relations. Furthermore the bill
continues the injustice against all people and
denegrates the efforts of local law enforcement
and mayors who want to address the challenges of
immigration but in a fair, non-violent and
dignified manner. The NHCSL joins hand-in-hand
with its sister Hispanic organizations, local
law enforcement officials, mayors and civil
rights leaders to oppose a series of these
‘enforcement-only’ bills, including H.R. 6095. I
encourage my colleagues across the country to
call their Member of Congress and ask them to
vote against H.R. 6095.”
